Union City honors Fefita La Grande with street dedication
The city of Union City, New Jersey, has officially honored legendary Dominican merengue artist Fefita La Grande by dedicating a street in her name. The newly designated ‘Fefita La Grande Way’ comprises 32nd Street, located between Bergenline Avenue and New York Avenue.
The recognition ceremony was led by Union City Mayor Brian P. Stack and the city’s Board of Commissioners. Officials highlighted the artist’s decades-long career and her significant contributions to the promotion of ‘merengue típico’ and Dominican culture both within the Dominican Republic and abroad.
The designation serves as a symbol of the Dominican community’s presence and influence in Union City. The tribute is part of a broader series of events celebrating the artist’s legacy, which includes state proclamations from New Jersey and her role as the Queen of the Hudson County Dominican-American Parade.
