Union of Pontians of Pieria launches new cultural year

The Union of Pontians of Pieria held a ceremony on September 27, 2026, to mark the beginning of its new cultural year and the reopening of its various departments. During the event, Union President Kostas Papoutsidis highlighted that 2027 will be a milestone year, celebrating the organization's 95th anniversary.

Papoutsidis noted the successful publication of a 955-page work titled ‘Oral Testimonies of First-Generation Pontian Refugees from Pontus to Katerini and Pieria,’ which was supported by the Hellenic Parliament. He expressed gratitude to Pieria MPs Anna Mani-Papadimitriou and Fontas Baraliakos for their support, noting that Baraliakos has committed to reprinting 500 additional copies.

A primary future goal for the Union is the reconstruction of a modern museum, which the leadership described as a central vision to serve as a cultural landmark for Katerini and the Pieria region.
