Union of Pontians of Pieria cultural activities
Overview
The Union of Pontians of Pieria has engaged in various commemorative and cultural activities to preserve Pontian heritage. The organization has honored the legacy of Chrysanthos Filippidis, the former Metropolitan of Trebizond, through the maintenance of a bust at its Spiritual-Cultural Center.
In late September 2026, the Union launched its new cultural year, marking the upcoming 95th anniversary of the organization in 2027. Recent achievements include the publication of a 955-page volume titled ‘Oral Testimonies of First-Generation Pontian Refugees from Pontus to Katerini and Pieria,’ which received support from the Hellenic Parliament. Looking forward, the Union has identified the reconstruction of a modern museum as a central vision for the Katerini and Pieria regions.
