Uniqlo signs sponsorship deal with Japan Wheelchair Basketball Federation
Uniqlo has signed an official sponsorship agreement with the Japan Wheelchair Basketball Federation (JWBF) to support the Japanese national teams ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games. The partnership, announced in Tokyo, includes the provision of official uniforms for the athletes.
Wheelchair tennis legend and Uniqlo global brand ambassador Shingo Kunieda facilitated the connection between the federation and the retailer. JWBF President Akira Tanaka noted that the sponsorship supports the organization's goal of realizing an inclusive society. Uniqlo representatives also highlighted how athlete feedback regarding clothing functionality, such as preventing fabric from catching in wheelchair wheels, informs their manufacturing process.
In preparation for the upcoming games, goalball competitions are scheduled to take place at the Toyohashi City General Gymnasium. Goalball is a sport designed for athletes with visual impairments, played in silence to allow players to rely on the sound of a bell inside the ball.
