United Airlines announces largest-ever international expansion for 2027

United Airlines has announced its largest international network expansion in its history, scheduled for the 2027 summer season. The expansion includes the addition of 10 new international destinations across Europe and Asia.

Key new routes include connections to Ljubljana, Slovenia; Okinawa, Japan; Luxembourg; Ibiza and Valencia, Spain; Toulouse and Marseille, France; and Olbia and Catania, Italy. Many of these routes will be the first nonstop services from the United States to these specific locations.

A central component of this strategy is the deployment of the Airbus A321XLR, a long-range narrowbody aircraft designed to serve niche or smaller markets that may not support larger widebody jets. The airline plans to use these aircraft to connect hubs like Newark and Washington Dulles to several of the new European destinations.

In addition to the 10 new cities, United is also adding several long-haul routes, including service from San Francisco to Okinawa and new connections from Denver and Los Angeles. The expansion aims to capitalize on robust demand for travel to secondary European and Asian destinations.
