Regional officials noted this connection is expected to establish Terceira as a strategic tourism hub.

Further developments for the 2027 rollout include the launch of the first-ever scheduled nonstop service between North America and Ibiza. Starting May 31, 2027, United intends to operate four weekly flights from Newark using the Airbus A321XLR. This Ibiza service remains subject to final government approval and follows years of lobbying by the island’s tourism office. United representative Patrick Quayle stated the airline aims to provide destinations for travelers at every stage of their lives.
