Separately, Tampa International Airport announced it will join the TSA Gold+ program, a Trump administration initiative to privatize security screening at airports. Under the plan, TSA operations at Tampa could be transferred to a private contractor as early as May 2027. The decision sparked emotional reactions among TSA staff, with some considering early retirement, and the AFL‑CIO‑affiliated union criticized the move as a profit‑driven privatization.
