United Arab Emirates faces extreme heat and upcoming weather shifts
The United Arab Emirates is experiencing extreme summer temperatures, with Bada Dafas in the Al Dhafra region recording 50.4°C on August 14. This is just under the year's peak of 51.2°C recorded earlier in August.
The National Centre of Meteorology forecasts temperatures reaching up to 49°C in some areas this Saturday. While inland regions remain the hottest, coastal areas may see temperatures between 40°C and 45°C. A shift in weather patterns is expected over the coming days, with clouds building in northern and eastern areas, potentially bringing light rainfall and increased winds of up to 40 km/h and blowing dust starting Monday.
Residents are awaiting the rise of the Suhail star, expected around August 24, which traditionally signals a transition to cooler weather. However, Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, noted that while temperatures may gradually lower, increased humidity could continue to cause discomfort. Authorities continue to enforce the mid-day work ban, prohibiting outdoor labor under direct sunlight from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM.
