United Cyprus Two-Community Peace Initiative calls for federal solution

The United Cyprus Two-Community Peace Initiative organised simultaneous demonstrations in the north and south of the island, bringing together 108 civil‑society organisations, political parties and trade unions. Participants included Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Sıla Usar İncirli, and the protests featured banners in Turkish, Greek and English reading “Federal Solution Now”.

Teachers’ union leader Ahmet Karaoğulları read a joint declaration signed by the groups, urging the restart of federal‑solution negotiations and thanking United Nations Secretary‑General António Guterres for his visit to Cyprus and his continued efforts since 2017 to break the stalemate in the peace talks.

The declaration called for renewed negotiations based on the UN‑proposed six‑point framework and stressed that the process should continue until a bi‑communal, bi‑zonal federation is achieved, promising ongoing civil‑society support.
