United Kingdom issues travel advisory for parts of Nigeria

The United Kingdom's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued updated travel advice for Nigeria, advising against all travel to 11 states and all but essential travel to 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Specifically, the UK advised against all travel to Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, and Gombe in the North-East, as well as Katsina and Zamfara in the North-West. Additionally, all travel is advised against in riverine and swamp areas of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.

The advisory also recommends against all but essential travel to several other regions, including Bauchi, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Jigawa, and Sokoto in the North-West; Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, Kwara, and Benue in the North-Central; and Abia, Anambra, and Imo in the South-East. The Federal Capital Territory, including Abuja, is also included in the essential travel warning. The FCDO cautioned that “No travel can be guaranteed safe” and noted that travel insurance could be invalidated if citizens ignore the advice.
