United Nations condemns Russian strikes on Ukrainian civilians

The United Nations has condemned a new wave of Russian strikes across Ukraine that resulted in numerous civilian deaths and injuries. UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Ukraine Matthias Schmale called for an immediate end to attacks targeting civilians and essential infrastructure, noting that such patterns of harm must cease.

In the Chernihiv Region, specifically Pryluky, at least 19 people were killed, including five children, three of whom were infants. At least 50 others were injured when residential buildings were struck. Additional strikes in the Poltava, Kyiv, and Kirovohrad regions reportedly killed approximately 25 people and injured dozens more.

Recent strikes also impacted medical services, with reports of a hospital in Kryvyi Rih and ambulances in Kramatorsk being hit on October 5 and 6. Furthermore, Ukrainian Red Cross workers were injured while attempting to provide assistance in Zaporizhzhia. Schmale emphasized that under international humanitarian law, civilians, children, and essential infrastructure are protected.
