United Nations hosts roundtable on political progress in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Permanent Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Nations, alongside the Permanent Mission of Luxembourg and the European Union Delegation, will host a research presentation and roundtable at the UN headquarters in New York. The event, titled ‘Putting Citizens at the Center of Peace and Political Progress: Evidence from Bosnia and Herzegovina – Significance for the Broader International Agenda’, aims to explore common ground among citizens to strengthen institutions.

Despite ongoing political and constitutional disagreements more than three decades after the Dayton Agreement, recent research indicates a broad consensus among citizens regarding equal rights, impartial institutions, accountable governance, and efficient public services. The discussion will examine the implications of these findings for Bosnia and Herzegovina and other post-conflict societies.

The program is based on two major research initiatives completed this year: the CONSENT BiH project by the University of Luxembourg, which analyzed public attitudes through a representative sample of 2,009 citizens, and a study led by the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs in partnership with the Institute for Development Impact (I4DI), which examined practical cooperation within the armed forces, business sector, and civil society.
