United Nations signs regional development frameworks with Belize and The Bahamas
The United Nations has signed new Multi-Country Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks (MSDCF) with Belize and The Bahamas, establishing shared development agendas for the 2027–2031 period.
In Belize, the agreement marks the first time a country has signed this regional framework for the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean. The partnership aims to coordinate efforts across 22 countries and territories, focusing on areas such as education, social protection, climate action, justice reform, and health. UN Resident Coordinator Raul Salazar noted that the framework will help align the work of various UN agencies with national government priorities.
The Bahamas signed its second five-year framework, which focuses on economic diversification, climate and disaster resilience, integrated social services, and addressing crime and violence. UN Resident Coordinator Dennis Zulu emphasized that the agreement is anchored in the country’s own national development goals. Key economic priorities include expanding digital and green industries, improving food systems, and increasing access to finance for women, youth, and small entrepreneurs.
