UN Security Council to discuss Bosnia and Herzegovina status

The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to hold a session on October 30 to discuss the political and security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Key agenda items include the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement and a vote on extending the mandate of the EUFOR Althea peacekeeping mission.

A central point of discussion is the future of the Office of the High Representative (OHR). The Security Council may propose an independent strategic review of the OHR, examining its remaining functions and progress toward meeting the '5+2' requirements for its closure. The Peace Implementation Council (PIC) has yet to reach an agreement on a successor to Christian Schmidt, leaving American diplomat Louis Chrishock in the role of acting High Representative.

In a departure from previous practice, Louis Chrishock will not personally attend the meeting in New York. Instead, the regular six-month report on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been submitted to the UN Secretary-General for formal distribution to Security Council members.
