United Nations: Trump and Pezeshkian exchange rhetoric on Iran as U.S.-China trade truce looms

At the United Nations General Assembly, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed the international community, stating that the Iranian people will not bow to tyrants. He emphasized that Iran is open to negotiations but rejects military pressure, asserting that the nation has never been an aggressor. Pezeshkian also criticized U.S. and Israeli actions in the region, specifically regarding Gaza and the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

U.S. President Donald Trump utilized the same UN platform to discuss relations with Iran, presenting a choice between a potential agreement or the destruction of the Islamic Republic. Trump suggested that a deal with Iran could be reached following the U.S. midterm elections in November, while simultaneously calling for the economic isolation of the Iranian regime.

Concurrently, tensions between the United States and China appear to be entering a fragile truce ahead of a summit between Trump and Xi Jinping at the White House. This shift toward a less aggressive tone is attributed to China's near-total control over rare earth metals, which are critical for the technology and automotive industries. While trade wars and tariffs have significantly impacted global markets since 2025, both leaders are currently seeking to maintain a temporary stability.
