United Nations warns of potential war crimes in southern Lebanon

The United Nations Human Rights Office has expressed grave concern regarding ongoing Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon, despite a previously established ceasefire. Reports indicate continued Israeli airstrikes, drone attacks, and shelling in several districts, including Jezzine, Marjayoun, Nabatieh al-Fouqa, Bint Jbeil, Hermel, and Tyre.

The UN stated that in areas occupied by Israeli forces, there is daily destruction of civilian infrastructure, including homes, schools, health facilities, water networks, and agricultural lands. The organization warned that some of these actions constitute widespread violations of international humanitarian law and may amount to war crimes.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, the human toll is significant. Between March 2 and October 11, 2026, 4,387 people were killed, including at least 660 women and children and 135 healthcare workers, with 12,424 injured. Since the conflict began on October 8, 2023, the cumulative death toll has reached 8,954, with 30,660 injuries reported.
