United States accuses Cuba of decades-long espionage and subversion

The U.S. State Department released a 100‑page report accusing Cuba of leading a campaign of espionage and subversion inside the United States for nearly seven decades. The report says Havana infiltrated high‑level U.S. government circles, recruited activists and backed left‑wing terrorism, noting that “Havana never had the capacity to defeat the United States in a conventional armed conflict.”

The Trump administration, which has repeatedly called for regime change in Havana, has intensified sanctions and warned it could take military control of the island. In response, Cuban authorities have rushed through economic reforms and legislative changes to appease Washington, while the country faces its worst economic crisis in decades, widespread power outages and a “total absence of fuel,” according to Energy Minister Vicente de la O Levy.
