United States adds 25% tariffs on Brazil, duties to 60 nations

On 16 July 2026 the Trump administration announced a 25 % tariff on most Brazilian imports, taking effect on 22 July 2026. The duties target products such as sugar, clothing, paper and steel, while beef, coffee and rare‑earth materials are exempt.

At the same time Washington replaced temporary measures with new tariffs of 10 %‑12.5 % on imports from 60 countries, covering 99 % of U.S. imports. The policy also foresees a 50 % tariff on $20 billion of Canadian imports beginning 19 August 2026. The administration says the actions respond to perceived unfair trade practices and insufficient controls on forced‑labour goods.
