United States allocates $242 million to combat Ebola in Central Africa

The United States government has allocated an additional $242 million to combat the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring countries, including Uganda. This funding, coordinated by the Department of State and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, brings the total U.S. assistance for this epidemic to over $512 million.

The resources are designated for early detection, medical screening at borders, the operation of specialized treatment centers, and the distribution of 300 metric tons of personal protective equipment. Additionally, the funds will support 11 regional laboratories and community campaigns to combat medical misinformation.

Concurrently, U.S. authorities have maintained a Level 4 travel advisory—‘Do Not Travel’—for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan, while providing emergency consular services for citizens in these regions.
