United States approves $140 million Black Hawk helicopter sale to Argentina

The United States Department of State has approved the sale of four UH-60L Black Hawk multi-role transport helicopters to Argentina. The deal, valued at up to $140 million, is intended to modernize Argentina’s aging fleet of Bell UH-1H/Huey II helicopters.

The approved package includes the four aircraft, two spare T700-GE-701D engines manufactured by General Electric, radio stations, and various onboard equipment. Argentina has also expressed interest in acquiring Bambi Bucket fire suppression buckets, simulators, ground support equipment, spare parts, and logistical and training support. Lockheed Martin is expected to be the primary contractor if an intergovernmental Letter of Offer and Acceptance is signed.

The U.S. government stated that this sale supports its foreign policy and national security objectives by enhancing the security of an important non-NATO ally. The acquisition is expected to improve Argentina’s capabilities in border security operations, transnational crime combat, humanitarian assistance, and disaster response.
