US-Argentina Black Hawk helicopter sale
Overview
The United States Department of State has approved a potential military sale to Argentina valued at up to $140 million. The package centers on the acquisition of four refurbished UH-60L Black Hawk multi-role transport helicopters manufactured by Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company.
In addition to the aircraft, the sale includes two T700-GE-701D engines, radio stations, and various onboard equipment. Argentina has also indicated interest in supplemental items such as fire suppression buckets, simulators, ground support equipment, and logistical training support. The procurement is intended to modernize the Argentine Army’s rotary-wing fleet by replacing aging Bell UH-1H/Huey II helicopters.
The U.S. government noted that the sale supports foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening a key non-NATO ally. The acquisition is expected to enhance Argentina’s capabilities regarding border security, transnational crime combat, humanitarian assistance, and disaster response. Argentine Defense Minister Carlos Presti indicated that the helicopters are expected to arrive during the first quarter of 2027.
