United States conducts airstrikes against Al-Shabaab in Somalia

The United States has conducted airstrikes against Al-Shabaab targets in Somalia as part of ongoing counterterrorism operations.

In southern Somalia, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed a strike against an Al-Shabaab facility near Saacou. The operation was carried out in coordination with the Somali federal government to degrade the capabilities of the Al-Qaeda-linked group. This follows at least four other U.S. strikes against the extremist group in Somalia over the past week.

In northern Somalia, Puntland authorities reported a successful strike targeting a weapons and ammunition depot in the Al-Madow area of the Golis mountain range. The facility, located at a site known as Markad, served as a logistical base for Al-Shabaab to stockpile military supplies. The Puntland government stated the operation was conducted in coordination with U.S. security institutions to disrupt the group's ability to plan and execute attacks.
