United States considers military action against Iran
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that the United States does not rule out military action against Iran, including in the Strait of Hormuz, should economic pressures fail to achieve objectives. Hegseth noted that current military efforts are coordinated with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to maximize economic impact.
CENTCOM reported that since the renewal of the naval blockade of Iranian ports on July 14, U.S. forces have diverted 71 commercial vessels. The military maintains the capability to protect shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a separate diplomatic development, Pakistani officials reported significant progress following talks in Tehran between Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir and Iranian leadership. The discussions focused on preventing further escalation, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and reaching a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Economically, the World Travel & Tourism Council reported that the ongoing conflict is causing Arab Gulf nations to lose at least $600 million daily in tourism revenue. If current trends persist for three months, the regional travel industry could see a loss of $50 billion to $65 billion.
