United States considers security guarantees for Iran amid Hormuz Strait operations

The United States is reportedly preparing to provide security guarantees to Iran regarding the TRIPP project. According to Aleks Watanka of the Middle East Institute, the U.S. may assure Tehran that no American military or security forces will be stationed in border areas, specifically within the Zangezur corridor in Armenia. While Iran has previously viewed the project as a threat to its regional interests, there are signs of a softening stance, with Iranian officials indicating that their position depends on whether the project poses a geopolitical or geoeconomic security threat.

In a separate maritime development, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that military operations have cleared sea mines placed by Iran in the Hormuz Strait to restore free navigation. Admiral Brad Cooper stated that approximately 50,000 U.S. personnel are involved in managing the blockade. Under U.S. protection, nearly 1,500 ships carrying roughly 750 million barrels of crude oil have passed through the strait recently. The U.S. has reportedly turned back 75 vessels attempting to breach the blockade. While Iran has denied these claims, asserting it continues to deliver oil in international waters, the strait remains a critical global energy corridor.
