United States delivers first U.S.-made Tamir interceptor for Iron Dome
The first Tamir interceptor for the Iron Dome missile defense system, fully manufactured and assembled in the United States, has been delivered to the Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO). The delivery took place during a ceremony at the Raytheon-Rafael Area Protection Systems (R2S) facility in East Camden, Arkansas.
The Camden facility is the first production site outside of Israel dedicated to manufacturing complete Tamir interceptors. It was established through a joint venture between Rafael and Raytheon to expand manufacturing capabilities and strengthen the defense industrial bases of both nations. This production line is intended to increase output and create jobs within the United States.
The Tamir interceptor is a core component of the Iron Dome system, which has recorded over 10,000 operational interceptions during its 15 years of service. The production agreement is part of a broader cooperative missile defense program between Washington and Jerusalem, which includes the development of other systems such as David’s Sling and Arrow.
