United States delivers second humanitarian aid shipment to Matanzas, Cuba

A second shipment of humanitarian aid from the United States has arrived in the Matanzas province of Cuba. The cargo, consisting of 700 modules containing food and hygiene products, was delivered to the Juan Gualberto Gómez International Airport in Varadero.

The distribution is being managed by the Catholic Church through Cáritas Cuba, specifically involving volunteers from the Nuestra Señora de la Caridad parish led by priest Enrique Peñate Galán. The aid will be distributed across Unión de Reyes, Bolondrón, Güira de Macurijes, and various rural communities. Priority for these supplies is given to vulnerable groups, including those over 60, persons with disabilities, the chronically ill, pregnant women, and children under five.

This shipment is part of a $100 million humanitarian assistance program approved by the U.S. government in May. Of this total, $60 million is being channeled through the Catholic Church in coordination with Cáritas Cuba and Catholic Relief Services, while the remaining $40 million is designated for other independent humanitarian organizations. Previous shipments have already reached Havana, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, and Camagüey.
