United States designates Palestine Action as a terrorist organization

The United States has designated the British activist group Palestine Action as a terrorist organization, joining the United Kingdom in doing so. This marks the first instance of a British left-wing activist group being subjected to US counter-terrorism sanctions.

Under these new measures, Palestine Action’s US-based assets, including property and bank accounts, will be frozen. US citizens are prohibited from conducting business with the group, and providing funds, goods, or services to the organization is banned. US officials stated that the group’s social media activity encouraged the replication of its tactics overseas.

The designation carries significant implications for the group’s founders, Richard Barnard and Huda Ammori, who face lifetime bans from entering the United States. Additionally, the sanctions may impact British citizens who fund the organization or participate in its protests, potentially leading to visa bans or difficulties accessing financial services such as mortgages and bank accounts.
