United States does not rule out military force against Iran
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated on August 24 that the United States does not rule out the possibility of military strikes in the Strait of Hormuz or around Iran. This declaration follows a major escalation in economic pressure against Tehran.
The U.S. Treasury Department has launched a campaign termed ‘Economic D-Day,’ implementing new sanctions against nearly 60 entities, including individuals and vessels. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized that the objective is to sever all economic funding sources for the Iranian government to increase its international isolation.
The military tension follows a conflict that began on February 28, 2026, involving U.S. and Israeli forces targeting Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities. Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks, while also restricting traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, leading to significant disruptions in global energy supplies.
