United States Embassy issues migration warnings in Central America
The United States Embassy has issued warnings to citizens in Central America regarding the misuse of visas and fraudulent promises of reentry into the United States.
In Honduras, the embassy emphasized that a visa is a privilege rather than a right. Officials warned that using a visa for purposes other than those authorized—such as working on a tourist visa—or providing false information can lead to visa revocation, denial of entry, or future immigration difficulties. The embassy clarified that a visa only allows travel to a port of entry; the final decision to admit an individual rests with immigration authorities at the border.
In El Salvador, the embassy alerted the public to social media scams targeting deported individuals. These posts often promise “safe,” fast, or guaranteed ways to return to the U.S. after deportation. The embassy stated that no one can guarantee legal or safe entry through paid services and warned that attempting to re-enter without authorization can result in severe legal and migratory consequences.
