United States faces fiscal crisis and constitutional decline
The United States is facing a dual crisis involving extreme fiscal instability and the deterioration of constitutional norms. National debt has surpassed $40 trillion, with the Congressional Budget Office projecting a $1.9 trillion federal deficit for fiscal year 2026 and annual deficits potentially reaching $3.1 trillion by 2036.
Rising borrowing costs are further complicating the economic landscape, as ten-year Treasury yields have reached 4.6% and 30-year yields have hit 5.2%. This creates a cycle where the government borrows to pay interest on existing debt.
Parallel to these fiscal concerns is a perceived breakdown in legal and constitutional frameworks. Concerns include the expansion of presidential power, military actions conducted without congressional authorization, and incidents involving the loss of due process, such as military actions in the Caribbean and an operation in Venezuela involving President Nicolas Maduro.
