Trump Liberty Line to connect Moldova and Romania with U.S. funding

The U.S. Embassy in Chisinau has announced that a new 400 kV high-voltage power line connecting Moldova and Romania will be named the ‘Trump Liberty Line’. The project, which aims to bolster Moldova's energy independence and security, is supported by a $130 million investment from the U.S. Government.

The Strășeni-Gutinaș power line will span a total of 190 kilometers, with approximately 70 kilometers located in Moldova and 120 kilometers in Romania. The line will connect the Strășeni substation in Moldova to the Gutinaș substation in Romania, providing a direct interconnection to the European energy grid. This marks the third major aerial power line between the two nations.

A working group comprising the Moldovan Ministry of Energy, Moldelectrica, and Black & Veatch has been established to coordinate construction. The Moldovan government has also moved to declare the project a matter of national public interest to expedite necessary legal and land expropriation procedures. Construction and related works are currently planned for completion by 2032.
