United States holds Houthis responsible for regional military escalation

The United States has issued a sharp warning to the Houthi militia, holding the group responsible for the recent wave of military escalation in Yemen and the broader region. In a statement released by the U.S. Embassy in Yemen, officials asserted that ‘the Houthis started this conflict and must bear the consequences of their aggression.’

Washington reaffirmed its recognition of the Government of the Republic of Yemen as the sole legitimate government, stating it has the full right to defend its people and work toward ending the Houthi group's ability to carry out terrorist activities. Additionally, the U.S. emphasized Saudi Arabia's right to defend its territory and citizens against Houthi attacks.

This diplomatic stance comes amid renewed military confrontations on several Yemeni fronts and recent Houthi strikes targeting Saudi Arabian territory. The U.S. position provides political backing for the legitimate Yemeni government and Saudi Arabia in their efforts to counter Houthi military operations.
