United States imposes second sanctions round on Sudan over alleged chemical weapons

The United States announced additional sanctions on Sudan on June 27, 2026, marking a second round under the Chemical Weapons and Biological Weapons Control Act. The measures target individuals and entities alleged to supply the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) with weapons, explosives and foreign fighters, and prohibit loans, financial or technical assistance from international financial institutions.

The sanctions expand export controls, ban US airlines from operating in Sudan, and add Sudanese defense firms, an Indian explosives company, and an Emirati supplier to the restricted list. Sudan’s government denies using chemical weapons, has formed a national investigative committee, and urged the UN to examine the accusations. A US spokesperson said the actions aim to pressure all parties to end external support and allow humanitarian aid.
