United States launches airstrikes on Iran amid Hormuz drone clash

The United States Central Command confirmed that fighter jets struck Iranian targets on the mainland after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps used a drone to hit the commercial cargo vessel Ever Lovely near the Omani coast of the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. strikes focused on Iran’s missile‑storage sites, drone depots and coastal radar installations.

In retaliation, Iran’s IRGC fired missiles and drones at U.S. military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain, prompting both Gulf states to put their air‑defence systems on high alert. Both parties blamed each other for breaching the 60‑day cease‑fire agreement that governs commercial shipping through the Hormuz waterway. U.S. President Donald Trump posted on social media warning that Iran would “never learn” and might cease to exist, heightening diplomatic tensions.
