United States launches economic offensive against Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a major economic offensive against Iran, describing the campaign as an ‘economic D-Day.’ The strategy aims to isolate Tehran by targeting its oil exports, financial transfers, and the clandestine networks used to evade existing sanctions.
Trump warned that any country, bank, airport, or government entity providing assistance to Iran would face direct economic consequences. The U.S. Treasury is specifically focusing on networks operating through the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Following a phone call between Trump and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi announced an immediate cessation of all economic, commercial, and financial transactions with Iran.
China remains a primary partner for Iran, accounting for over a quarter of its 2024 trade. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticized the move as ‘economic terrorism’ that threatens the global economy, suggesting the pressure is a diversion from domestic U.S. economic issues. Meanwhile, Iranian forces have warned of using more destructive weapons if military hostilities resume.
