United States launches economic offensive to isolate Iran

The United States administration, led by President Donald Trump, is launching a massive economic and financial offensive against Iran. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described the move as an ‘economic D-Day,’ intended to isolate the Iranian regime and force the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which is currently under the control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The strategy aims to sever all economic lifelines sustaining Tehran. This includes potential secondary sanctions and tariffs against third-party countries and companies that maintain commercial ties with Iran, specifically targeting entities linked to China. The administration seeks to deprive the Iranian government of the funds necessary to maintain its military infrastructure.

In response, Iran has characterized support for these sanctions as an ‘act of war’ and has threatened to halt all oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz and other regional maritime passages. The conflict has already significantly impacted global energy transit; data from Kpler indicates that daily oil movement through the Strait has fallen to 3.7 million barrels, a sharp decline from the 20 million barrels recorded prior to the current hostilities.
