The U.S. military's financial burden from the conflict with Iran has risen significantly, with the Pentagon reporting a total cost of $45.1 billion to Congress. This figure includes $43.6 billion in operational costs recorded through September 3 and an additional $1.5 billion for fuel requirements.
A major driver of these escalating costs is the consumption of expensive munitions. Weaponry and ammunition expenses have reached $28.1 billion, a sharp increase from previous estimates. The conflict is also causing critical shortages of defense systems like Patriot and THAAD interceptors, impacting military readiness.
The current $45.1 billion estimate is not a final total, as it excludes the costs of repairing U.S. military bases and infrastructure damaged by Iranian attacks across eight Middle Eastern countries. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) previously estimated the cost at $38 billion as of August 1 and projects that the conflict will continue to cost between $2 billion and $3 billion per month.
