United States pledges support for Yemeni government forces against Houthis
The United States has announced its support for Yemeni government forces in their ongoing conflict against the Houthi militia. Following a meeting between US Chargé d'Affaires Neil Hope and Marib Governor Sultan al-Arada, the US Embassy in Yemen reaffirmed its commitment to Yemen's security, stability, and development.
The US praised the courage of government forces in defending the country and its vital resources amid escalating clashes in Marib, the West Coast, and other fronts. This support comes as the Houthis have increased attacks using ballistic missiles and drones against military sites and vital infrastructure.
Washington has previously emphasized its partnership with the Yemeni government regarding maritime security, counter-terrorism, and countering Houthi attacks supported by Iran. During discussions, Sultan al-Arada called for increased political and economic pressure on the militia to cut off its funding and weaponry, noting that protecting the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab is a shared international responsibility.
