U.S. Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Ken seeks exit from Iran war

Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Ken, told senior advisers to President Donald Trump that the United States must find a way out of the six‑month‑old conflict with Iran. He warned that the military options being considered for further escalation could produce serious unintended consequences and that air power alone is unlikely to achieve the objectives set by the president.

Ken discussed these concerns with key members of the administration, including CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance, seeking to coordinate agency positions before meetings with the president. Trump has repeatedly rejected the idea of deploying U.S. ground forces in Iran, preferring intensified air strikes to pressure Tehran into accepting a settlement, a scenario Ken and other senior officials consider improbable. The war, which began after claims of destroying Iranian military capabilities, remains linked to Trump’s pledge to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
