United States seeks extradition of six suspects from Madagascar
The United States is requesting the extradition of six individuals from Madagascar to face charges related to an international cryptocurrency fraud network. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the suspects allegedly organized fraudulent activities from Madagascar.
This investigation follows the deployment of FBI agents to Madagascar, an action facilitated by the Malagasy Ministry of Justice and the National Police. Previous joint operations resulted in the dismantling of 13 fraud complexes and the seizure of over 3,200 electronic devices. However, U.S. authorities noted obstacles in the investigation, including the repatriation of several suspects to China before inquiries were finalized.
U.S. prosecutors are also seeking to interview 15 former employees of the network currently held in a Malagasy prison. These individuals have alleged they were victims of human trafficking and abuse. Investigators believe the network relocated to Madagascar in early 2025 after fleeing police operations in Cambodia, using fake profiles on dating sites to target American victims.
