United States seeks to counter Chinese influence in Peru

The United States is actively working to strengthen its partnership with Peru to counter growing Chinese influence in the region. U.S. Ambassador Bernie Navarro has announced measures to assist Peru in preparation for the El Niño climate phenomenon, including the deployment of a hospital ship to Peruvian waters in February to coincide with the expected peak of the event.

Ambassador Navarro stated that the U.S. strategy focuses on promoting stability and security, noting that a stable Peru serves American interests. This diplomatic push aligns with the priorities of the newly inaugurated Peruvian President, Keiko Fujimori. In a significant early move, President Fujimori signed a one-billion-dollar contract with Coca-Cola, which has also committed to providing water supplies for those affected by El Niño.
