United States Space Academy established by executive order

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order establishing the United States Space Academy, a proposed NASA-led federal institution designed to train the next generation of space professionals. Announced at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, the academy aims to provide technical education and leadership training for astronauts, engineers, scientists, military personnel, and civil operators to support the U.S. Space Force, NASA, and the commercial space industry.

A Presidential Commission on the United States Space Academy has been formed to develop a detailed implementation plan. Chaired by NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, with Deputy Administrator Matt Anderson serving as executive director, the commission has 120 days to submit a report. This report will address governance, academic curriculum, accreditation, potential locations, and whether graduates will have service obligations to the military or federal government.

The initiative comes amid increasing strategic competition in space and the rapid expansion of the commercial space sector. During the announcement, the President also presented the Congressional Space Medal of Honor to the crew of the Artemis II mission.
