United States targets Houthi funding and weapons access

The United States is actively working to deprive the Iran-backed Houthi group of weapons and funding to protect freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the wider Middle East. A State Department spokesperson stated that the Trump administration has demonstrated a commitment to defending these interests against aggression from Iran and its proxies.

To limit the group’s ability to conduct terrorist activities, the U.S. has imposed sanctions on more than 200 entities linked to the Houthis, which the administration has designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. Washington continues to engage with regional partners and allies to achieve shared counterterrorism objectives and combat instability in the region.

In a separate development, Rashad al-Alimi, head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, spoke with President Donald Trump to request support as fighting in Yemen intensifies. While the President did not pledge specific military support, the call was noted as representing political support for the Presidential Leadership Council.
