United States to host inaugural FIFA Women’s Club World Cup in 2028
FIFA has confirmed the United States as the host for the first edition of the Women’s Club World Cup, scheduled to take place from January 5 to January 30, 2028. The tournament will feature 19 clubs from the six continental confederations, which will be reduced to 16 teams following a play-off phase.
Qualification is based on performance in continental club competitions between the 2024 and 2027 seasons. Currently, seven clubs have secured their places: Arsenal (England), Barcelona (Spain), Club América (Mexico), Gotham FC (USA), Naegohyang (North Korea), Corinthians (Brazil), and Wuhan Jiangda (China). The distribution of slots includes six for UEFA, three each for AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, and CONMEBOL, one for OFC, and the remaining spots to be determined.
FIFA selected the United States due to its proven expertise in hosting major international tournaments, advanced sporting infrastructure, and the significant growth of interest in women’s football within the country. The tournament will be held every four years.
