United States urges Israel to halt violence in occupied West Bank

Washington is preparing to deliver formal demands to Israel to stop the escalating attacks on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. The U.S. plans to present the requests during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to Washington, where he is expected to meet President Donald Trump. The demands include a halt to Israeli military and settler assaults, increased monitoring and reporting of violations, easing of checkpoint restrictions, and economic measures to support the Palestinian Authority and reduce tensions.

Palestinian officials warn the situation is at a breaking point. Since 8 October 2023, Israeli forces and settler groups have carried out 1,659 attacks in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, resulting in 1,173 Palestinian deaths, 12,666 injuries and roughly 24,000 arrests. Recent Israeli settlement approvals in East Jerusalem have further heightened the crisis, prompting calls for immediate international intervention.

The U.S. statement signals growing concern over the humanitarian fallout and aims to pressure Israel to comply with international law while maintaining the strategic alliance between the two nations.
