Overview

In early July 2026 the United States prepared formal demands for Israel to halt the surge of attacks on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. The requests, to be presented during Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Washington visit, called for an end to military and settler assaults, stronger monitoring and reporting of violations, easing of checkpoint restrictions and economic measures to support the Palestinian Authority. Abbas cited hundreds of civilian deaths, the destruction of homes, religious sites and agricultural land, and framed the violence as a systematic policy of settlement expansion that threatens a two‑state solution. He demanded full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2334, international protection for Palestinians, accountability for perpetrators and pressure on Israel to halt settlement activity.

On 27‑28 July 2026 Abbas expanded his diplomatic outreach, addressing the European Union, the Arab League, the UN Security Council president and several friendly states. He warned of a dangerous escalation of Israeli military operations and settler violence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, noting destruction of homes, farms, trees and religious sites, and describing the attacks as part of a systematic policy to expand settlements and displace Palestinians. Abbas reiterated calls for the implementation of UNSC 2334, accountability, a halt to all settlement activity, and international protection under humanitarian law, while highlighting an intensifying crackdown in towns such as Nablus and Tal.
