U.S. drug czar warns Mexican officials against cartel collaboration

Sara Carter, Director of the U.S. Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), has issued a direct warning to Mexican officials and civilians who collaborate with drug cartels. In recent statements, Carter emphasized that the Trump administration intends to pursue anyone facilitating the operations of criminal organizations, regardless of their official position, including governors.

Carter noted that the U.S. strategy targets those who protect or maintain relationships with organizations designated as foreign terrorist entities. She stressed that the pressure on cartel members and their collaborators will remain intense for the foreseeable future, stating that they will not be able to ‘sleep peacefully’ for the next two and a half years.

While issuing these warnings, Carter also called for enhanced bilateral cooperation between the United States and Mexico. She urged both governments to find common ground and work together to dismantle these criminal networks, suggesting that joint efforts are essential to effectively ending cartel operations.
