Universal Health Insurance expands coverage and specialized services in Egypt
The Universal Health Insurance Authority in Egypt has reported significant progress in expanding medical coverage and specialized services. In Luxor, during the first half of 2026, the system reached approximately 1,355,447 beneficiaries, achieving a coverage rate of 92.9% of the governorate's population. To ensure social protection, the state covers the subscription fees for roughly 140,835 citizens from underprivileged groups.
In Ismailia, the system has successfully localized highly specialized medical interventions. Recent cases include a complex corneal transplant and a total knee replacement surgery, where the system covered the high costs, leaving patients to pay only the prescribed small contributions. The authority continues to expand its network of service providers to ensure advanced medical technologies are accessible within various governorates, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for specialized care.
