Universal Orlando prepares to replace Islands of Adventure's Lost Continent

Universal Orlando Resort is undergoing significant changes to the Lost Continent land at Islands of Adventure. The area, which opened in 1999, is seeing increased demolition activity and construction walls, particularly around the former Sinbad stunt theater. This follows the 2023 permanent closure of Poseidon’s Fury, which was once the land's primary attraction.

While Universal Destinations & Experiences has not officially announced a replacement, there is heavy speculation regarding a Pokémon-themed area. This follows a global partnership between Universal and The Pokémon Company. Rumors suggest the approximately eight-acre site, located between Seuss Landing and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade, could host a family-friendly roller coaster or a dark ride inspired by Pokémon Snap.

The transition marks a shift from the park's original mythology-based environments toward established global entertainment franchises, a trend continuing following the opening of Epic Universe.
