Universal Studios Hollywood to open Fast & Furious coaster in September 2026

Universal Studios Hollywood has announced that its new roller coaster, ‘Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift’, will officially open on September 16, 2026. The attraction marks the park’s first outdoor, high-speed roller coaster and is the fastest in the Universal Destinations & Experiences portfolio, reaching speeds of up to 72 mph.

The ride features a dual-launching, split-track system that allows vehicles to rotate 360 degrees to simulate drifting. Riders will experience forces up to 3.6 Gs across 4,100 feet of track, including elements such as an inverted dive loop and a twisted pretzel loop. The ride vehicles are modeled after iconic cars from the franchise, including the Dodge Charger, Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R, and Toyota Supra.

The project has faced local challenges, including noise complaints from residents in the neighboring Toluca Lake area. In response, Universal has implemented sound-reduction technology and additional barriers to mitigate the impact. The attraction is themed around the 25th anniversary of the Fast & Furious franchise and features a queue filled with recreated props from the film series.
